Marie E. Spalding, 96, of Collinsville, IL, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Freeburg Care Center.
She was born September 18, 1929, in O'Fallon, IL to the late Louis Paskero and Olivia (Bonora) Paskero. On April 23, 1949, she married George Spalding, who preceded her in death.
Marie devoted her early years to being a loving homemaker while her boys were young. Later, she worked in the cafeteria at North Jr. High in Collinsville. She enjoyed bowling and shared many happy times with friends and family at the lanes. In the 1960s, she proudly won a car at a bowling tournament, a prize that created countless cherished memories of family outings and togetherness. She also enjoyed square dancing with George, her loving husband, and playing cards with her sister, Edie, and numerous friends. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her two sons: Mark Spalding of Charlottesville, VA (Deborah Spalding of Kansas City, KS) and Jim (Karen) Spalding of Belleville, IL; six grandchildren: Bryan (Carmen) Spalding, Adrian Spalding Graham, Corinne (Marc Melvin) Spalding, Brad (Katie) Spalding, Brett (Lindsey) Spalding, and George (Christie) Spalding; nine great-grandchildren: Tyler (Samantha), Jack (Grace), Thea, Dylan, Quincy, Beckett, Laina, Genevieve, Hudson; three great-great-grandchildren: River, Layla and Elliot; a sister, Edith Santen of Maryville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her kindness and devotion to family.
Memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 5:45 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 5:45 p.m., officiated by Father Michael Haag. Private burial will be on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and will be received at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
