Marilyn Jean Meehan, 95, of Maryville, IL, formerly of Collinsville, IL, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born September 19, 1930, in Gilman, IL, to the late Lawrence and Myrtle (nee Mulder) Walsh. Marilyn married John A. Meehan on September 9, 1950, and he preceded her in death.
Marilyn had worked as a bookkeeper at Gateway Seed Company in St. Louis, MO. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Ss Peter & Paul Church in Collinsville. Family was very important to Marilyn, and she was proud of all of them. She always had a smile and a kind word to give.
Marilyn spent most of her early retirement life babysitting her great grandchildren. She was always willing to support her grandchildren by attending most of their sporting events. She was one of their biggest fans.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, William, and Donald Walsh; and a son-in-law, Darrell Walling.
She is survived by her four children: John (Jan) Meehan, Jr. of Shiloh, IL; Toni Walling of Maryville, IL; Laura Bone of Maryville, IL; and Kelly Ossola of Edwardsville, IL.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Chad (Stephanie) Walling, Leslie (Darrin) Compton, Rainy (Nick) Reinhardt, Emily (Eric) Wiedower, Josh (Lindsay) Walling, Ryan Ossola, Robert "BJ" Bone, and Matthew (Randi Schwartz) Bone; and nine great-grandchildren: Hannah Ossola, Kennedy Walling, Dane Compton, Casen Compton, Preston Wiedower, Liam Compton, Reese Reinhardt, Stella Reinhardt, and Mara Bone; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Ss Peter & Paul Church, 207 Vandalia Street, Collinsville, IL. A Mass will follow at noon with Father John Beveridge Celebrant.
A graveside service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Gilman, IL at 12 noon on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Memorials are suggested to Ss Peter & Paul Church or Vitas Hospice. Donations will be received at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
