Mary Margaret Collier, age 101, of Belleville, IL, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the Benedictine Living Community at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows.
Born May 23, 1924, in Madison, IN, she was the only child of the late Frank and Magdalena (née Massing) Geyman. On August, 26, 1943 during World War II, she married Victor M. Collier, who preceded her in death on April 4, 1987. Following her husband's military service, they made their home in Madison before settling in Greenville, IL in 1947. Mary was employed at the Greenville Advocate and later Pet Milk in Greenville and also in St. Louis at the Corporate Headquarters of Pet Milk as an Executive Secretary. After Victor's passing, Mary lived in Collinsville, IL, and later moved to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in 2007.
Mary was a devoted member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville. She had a deep appreciation for the arts of bridge, reading, knitting, and needlepoint, all of which brought her great joy throughout her long life. She also enjoyed traveling and took several cruises with her friend Mary Lowe.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John K. Collier, and daughter-in-law, Nardia T. Collier.
Mary is survived by four sons: Victor Collier, Robert (Jayne) Collier, Thomas (Jan) Collier, and James Collier. She is also lovingly remembered by her many grandchildren (15), great-grandchildren (42), and great-great-grandchildren (3).
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 207 Vandalia, Collinsville, IL. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Father Michael Haag officiating. Burial will take place at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in Greenville, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church and will be received at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
