Obituary

Mary Kathryn Cundiff, 94 of Collinsville, IL, born February 9, 1924 in Lilbourn, MO, passed away October 28, 2018 at 1:00 a.m. at her residence.

She worked secretarial jobs for many companies in the Metro-St. Louis area, including payroll for the A.O. Smith, and as a secretary for Yelton Supply Company in Granite City, although she started at a clothing manufacturer downtown St. Louis where she rode the streetcar to work when she arrived in St. Louis at the age of 19 with a girlfriend from her hometown.  Tiny, but mighty, she was a strong, determined, opinionated, knowledgeable woman, who spoke her mind freely.  She was a community activist, challenging developers if it wasn't in the best interest of the neighborhood.  Her mind was always inquisitive, thinking of more questions than a reporter on any topic.  She enjoyed doing research and writing papers for students, once doing a Masters Thesis.  She "blackened" many meals while preoccupied with out-of-doors projects or gardening, which she loved.  She was a member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, IL.  Married in 1948 to Keith C. Cundiff, they were wed 68 years prior to his death two years ago.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Simon Peter and Jeannette (nee Johnson) Robinson; two sisters, Evelyn Ward and Pauline White; two brothers, S.P. Robinson and James V. Robinson; and a son, Dale Lee Cundiff.

She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis (James) McLane of Lumberton, TX; a grandson, Robbie (Rebekah) McLane of Papillion, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon, IL, under the direction of Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL with Father Joseph Havrilka officiating.

Her family would like to thank caregivers Sue, Mary, and Shawna for their warmth and support the past couple of years.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
