Obituary

Mary Ann Gray, 88, of Collinsville, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

She was born December 25, 1937, in Cincinnati, OH, to the late Wilbur and Verna (nee Schildknecht) Heien.

Mary Ann was a 1956 graduate of St. Teresa Academy in East St. Louis, IL. She had worked as a hostess and secretary for the former Round Table Restaurant in Collinsville. She was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville and was actively involved in many organizations and activities throughout the community. She was a member of Friends, HOPE, SOAR, Friends of the Collinsville Historical Museum, Red Hat Ladies, several card clubs, and St. Teresa Academy Reunions. She also volunteered at the Collinsville Historical Museum and loved playing pinochle at the Collinsville Senior Center. Mary Ann enjoyed traveling and, most of all, spending time with her family.

She was a past member of the Collinsville Junior Service Club, Christian Women’s Club and Collinsville Women’s Club.

In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, David Gray.

She is survived by her three sons, Michael (Donna) Rudis of Collinsville, IL, Edward (Kristen) Rudis of Carson City, NV, and Richard (Denise) Rudis of Collinsville, IL; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Mallory, Taylor, Nick (Mary), Sarah, Alee (Jon), Isabella and Giovanna; four great-grandchildren: Keegan, Reed, Emmy Lou, and Sam; two brothers, Dale (Jo) Heien of Mesa, AZ, and Rich (Sue) Heien of Houston, TX; one sister, Lynda (Steve) Ingerson of Olive Branch, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann will be remembered for her love of family, generous spirit and the many ways she gave her time to her community.

A memorial visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.

Memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. officiated by Father John Beveridge. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, next to her husband, David.

Memorials are suggested to the Collinsville Historical Museum and Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in the form of Masses. Memorials will be received at the service or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
