Mary Lynn Stringer, age 88 of Collinsville, IL, born June 17, 1932 in Chattanooga, TN, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Evelyn's House in Creve Coeur, MO.

Mary Lynn graduated from Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga, TN and continued on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Siena College in Memphis, TN.

A lifelong teacher and learner, Mrs. Stringer taught at Villa Duchesne in St. Louis, MO and 30 years at Jefferson Elementary School in Collinsville where she was Jefferson's teacher of the year in 1984 and won Collinsville Unit 10 Teacher of the Year in 1990.  She was an advocate for her 3 rd graders tirelessly fundraising to afford trips to NASA's Alabama Space Camp, the Young Author's Conference, and directing the annual Pilgrims First Thanksgiving play.

Mrs. Stringer was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville.  She served her Lord God and community volunteering with Faith in Action and SS Peter & Paul Ministries: Eucharistic Minister, Hospitality, Divine Mercy Cenacle, Cursillo, Women's Day, Ladies Auxiliary of Knight of Columbus, SOS Soup Kitchen, Fish Fry, and Giving Tree.

She was co-founder of the Collinsville Youth Tennis League in the 1970's.  She loved playing tennis, golf, bridge and traveling with Jerry, the love of her life, and her lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Stringer, whom she married on August 6, 1960; her parents, Francis Joseph Sr. and Ella (nee Bray) Steiner; and a brother, Francis Joseph Steiner, Jr.

She is survived by her three children:  Cathy Stringer, Ken (Mary) Stringer, and John (Nicole) Stringer; five grandchildren:  Megan, Lauren, Will, Jake and Nathan; and nieces and nephews along with their families: Frank, Ann, Christopher and Kristina.

Visitation will be 5 – 7 pm on Monday, March 22, 2021 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL and from 10 – 11 am on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 207 Vandalia, Collinsville, IL.  Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing guidelines will be observed and masks are required to be worn at the funeral home and the church.

Funeral mass will be at 11 am following the visitation with Father John Beveridge Celebrant.  Burial will be in SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Collinsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mary Lynn's honor to SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church and Evelyn's House. They will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to the funeral home.
