Mildred "Millie" A. Hood, age 86 of Collinsville, Illinois, born September 25, 1936 in Freeburg, Illinois, passed away on November 14, 2022 at Freeburg Care Center.

Millie was a 1954 Freeburg High School graduate and began working for Southwestern Bell immediately after graduating. She started as a switchboard operator and had a career that spanned 33 years. She retired from SBC as an Administrative Assistant and went on to work for Sverdrup & Parcel in St. Louis, Missouri. Millie loved the St. Louis Cardinals and was especially fond of Harrison Bader. Millie loved talking to people and hearing about their families. She enjoyed good food, watching old movies and bird watching. Millie kept in close touch with all of her friends and family by phone.

Millie was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, John (Jack) Hood; her parents, Albin and Valeria Mudd Zipfel; her brothers, Cletus Zipfel and Stephen Zipfel.

She is survived by her sister, Janice Zipfel (Jerry) Nicholson of Huntsville, Alabama; her sister-in-law, Deirdre Zipfel of Huntsville, Alabama, Suzanne Hood DeBow of Decatur, Georgia and Elaine Hood (Tom) Arnotti of Collinsville, Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Barry Wilson Funeral Home with internment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with her husband John (Jack) Hood.

A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6 North Alton, Freeburg, IL with Father Von Deeke celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois or the American Heart Association and may be mailed to the funeral home at 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
