Obituary

Norma A. Whitworth, 92, of Glen Carbon, IL, formerly of Springfield, IL, passed away early Sunday morning, February 16, 2025 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL.

Norma was born in Springfield on July 27, 1932, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Kubish) Proctor.  She married Charles H. Whitworth on August 16, 1952 in Springfield.  He preceded her in death in December 2014.  Norma is survived by sons Steven (Melanie) Whitworth of Collinsville, IL and Craig (Mary Baksys) Whitworth of Springfield.  She had two grandchildren, Alyssa (Jason) McCoy of St. Louis and Tyler (Laynie Klawer) Whitworth of Chicago, as well as two great granddaughters.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother William Kittell. Norma retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Co in 1991 after more than 30 years of service.  She loved to garden and to cook for her family.  She was an avid reader and collector of books.  She also enjoyed listening to music and to travel.  She earned the certification as a Master Gardener from the University of Illinois Extension following her retirement.

Cremation rites will be accorded by Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL, with inurnment at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
