Obituary

Opal Jean Crossno, age 88 of Collinsville, IL, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at St. Paul's Senior Community in Belleville, IL.

She was born February 4, 1934 in Adamsville, TN to the late Virgil and Bertie (nee Duren) Plunk.  She married L.H. Crossno on October 6, 1950 and they had two daughters, Charlotte and Donna.   He preceded her in death.

Opal and her husband were the former owners of Crosno's Transmission in Collinsville.  After the passing of L.H. in 1981, Opal worked many years for the Collinsville Unit #10 School District as a cafeteria worker.  She enjoyed working in her yard.  She mowed her own grass and loved to plant flowers.  In September of 2007, she was awarded the Collinsville Yard of the Month.

She was quite the character with a great sense of humor.  She lived life to the fullest going on cruises with her friends and enjoyed going to casinos.  Christmas was her favorite holiday and every year she loved riding around looking at Christmas lights.  Opal was a proud mother and grandmother.  She was loved immensely and will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers:  Harry Glenn, Grady Ray, Billy "Jack" Plunk, Kenneth Plunk, Tommy Plunk and Donald Plunk; and two sisters:  Iris "Gay" Billman and Betty Plunk.

She is survived by her two daughters:  Charlotte (Hal) Marshall and Donna (Gary) Eversmann both of Collinsville, IL; five grandchildren:  Scott Marshall, Brett (Patti) Marshall, Eric (Elizabeth) Eversmann, Matthew (Melissa) Eversmann and Amber (Mike) Marshall; eight great-grandchildren:  John Marshall, Ian Marshall, Blake Eversmann, Kirsten Eversmann, Darbie Marshall, Adelaide Eversmann, Bennett Eversmann and Colby Eversmann; three sisters: Martha Kraft of Freeburg, IL, Dora "Jane" Detterman of Naples, FL and Peggy Holman of Sikeston, MO; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2022 and 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL.  The family kindly requests masks to be worn if unvaccinated.
