Penny E. Kennedy of Edwardsville, IL, passed away peacefully on January 28th, 2025. She was born on July 6th, 1947, to Bernadette and Richard Lyon in Waukegan, IL.
She leaves behind her husband of 56 years, Dale Kennedy, two sons, Ryan (Penny Rose) Kennedy and David (Amber) Kennedy, four granddaughters which she lovingly referred to as "grandgirls" and were the joy of her life, Ainsley, Keira, Anneliese, and Amelie Kennedy and her sister, Mary Lyon (John Hollis).
She was a wonderful sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend to so many. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Tom Lyon and 2 sisters, Bernadette Warrens and Vicky Shepard.
Penny was a 1965 graduate of Warren Township High School in Gurnee, IL. She attained her Master's of Nursing from SIUE in 1984. Her passion was helping others. She was a women's health nurse practitioner and was dedicated to help making women's lives and health better. She retired in 2003 but continued helping others through her church ministries and volunteering at her granddaughters' schools. She was a member of Metro Community church in Edwardsville, IL and was very involved with leading Bible Studies, Youth Department nursery, acted as the nurse at the annual Kids Bible Kamp summer camp, and was active in the meal and flower ministry. She enjoyed knitting, boat rides on Holiday Shores lake, and reading.
A memorial service will be held at Metro Community Church, 3551 Ridge View Rd, Edwardsville, IL on Saturday, March 15th, starting at 10 am with a celebration of life beginning at Noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association and the Metro Community Church Children's ministry or meal and flower ministry.
