Phyllis June Bethel, 87, of Collinsville, IL, formerly of Highland, IL, peacefully passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Charter Senior Living of Troy.

She was born on August 7, 1938, in Rodessa, Louisiana, to the late James Cecil and Iris Thelda (nee Wall) Nickerson. Over the years, Phyllis built a dedicated career working for various insurance agencies as a claims adjuster.

A woman of faith, Phyllis was a longtime member of St. John United Church of Christ in Collinsville. She had a joyful spirit and a passion for life. She enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, dancing whenever she had the chance, and was an Elvis Presley enthusiast. She liked Adam Lambert, McDonald's vanilla shakes, and decorating for any holiday.

Phyllis is survived by her loving daughters, Tammy (Scott) Bethel-Anderson of Troy, IL, and Bambi (Martin Barnett) Bethel of Highland, IL; three cherished grandchildren: Bailey (Brendan Stanfield) Leitschuh, Chase (Lyndi) Leitschuh, and Evan (Savannah) Anderson. She is also survived by her brother, Jim (Sue) Nickerson of Highland, IL; her sister, Susan Van Vorhees of St. Louis, MO; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at St. John United Church of Christ, 307 West Clay, Collinsville, IL 62324. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon, officiated by Rev. Jenn Sowell. Phyllis will be laid to rest at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.
