Randy Paul Rock, age 76 of Edwardsville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at University Care Center in Edwardsville with his family by his side.
He was born October 28, 1947 in Granite City, IL, the only son to the late Hilbert and Norma (nee Niehaus) Rock. He married Janis Surette on November 17, 1984 and she survives.
In his earlier years, Randy worked at the Granite City Steel Mill from 1965 to 1969. He attained his Bachelor of Science and Masters in English and History from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and worked as the Dean of Students at SIUE from 1994 to 2003. He enjoyed teaching and was a professor at the university for English 101 and 102 up until his recent illness of a stroke. He was a past campus director at East Central College in Rolla, MO.
Randy was an animal lover. He and his wife, Janis, coordinated and transported 500 dog transports. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by many dogs and cats the family had throughout the years.
Surviving is his wife, Janis; two children: Jason Rock and his partner Brianna Domescik of Glen Carbon, IL and Jamie Horstmann and her husband Matt Horstmann of Highland, IL; and two grandchildren: Brynn and Briar Horstmann.
Memorial visitation will be 2 – 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.
Memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. with Deacon Dan Corbett officiating. Immediately following the service, the family would like to extend an invitation to join them for a social at Trace Parkway, 6150 Trace Parkway Drive, in Edwardsville.
Memorials are suggested to the Metro East Humane Society and SIUE gardens and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
