Richard Gene Iberg, age 93 of Glen Carbon, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, Christmas 25, 2024 at his home in Glen Carbon.
He was born on March 11, 1931, in Edwardsville, IL to the late Samuel Iberg and Laura E. Iberg (nee Fellhauer). Loving husband of the late June M. Iberg (nee Arth). They were married on May 8, 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edwardsville, IL. Dear father of Patti (Larry) Brown of Edwardsville, Diane (Bradford) Frye of Vandalia, Mary Doom of Marine and Craig (Michelle Bolin) Iberg of Sullivan, IL. Cherished grandfather of Stephanie (Renato Gatchalia) Lucas, Michelle (Chuck) Witthaus, Robin (Sebastian) Richert, Ryan Schutte, Bradley Iberg and Jessica Iberg. Dearest great grandfather of Ian Wolf, Collin Wolf, Benjamin Richert and Logan Richert. A brother-in-law, William (Judith Allard) Arth survives.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his brother Raymond Iberg; brother-in-law, Harvey Nolen; and sisters-in-law, Mary Arth Varner, Audrey Arth Nolen, Audrey Schaake Arth and Marjorie Hess Iberg.
Richard graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1948 and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard working on an icebreaker in the Great Lakes. He later worked for both IBM and the United States Army Aviations Command as a computer technician, programmer and programing supervisor. A hard-working man, he had second jobs most of his life; he sold real estate at Joe Foster Realty and sold vacuum cleaners, camping trailers and mobile homes. In 1961, Richard and June purchased the Septmeyer home which was built in 1892. On the property, the entire family was involved in building Wheel Ranch Mobile Home Park from the ground up. He taught his family and other young people skills such as operating a backhoe, pipe-laying and concrete finishing. Richard and June continued to live on the property until 2022 when they moved to Meridian Village. He was a member of the Maryville Knights of Columbus and Mother of Perpetual Help Church.
Richard loved spending time with his family, doing anything outdoors, traveling and meeting people from different cultures. Richard and June visited 43 countries and all 50 states.
Visitation will be 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville.
Funeral mass will be at 12 noon at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 200 N. Lange, Maryville, IL 62062 with Father Rob Johnson celebrant. Burial will be at Buck Road Cemetery, Collinsville.
Memorials may be made to Mother of Perpetual Help or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
