Robert "Bob" Paul Bohnenstiehl, Sr., age 87 of Collinsville, IL, born April 5, 1936 in Belleville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Memorial East Hospital in Shiloh, IL surrounded by his loving family.
Bob graduated from Collinsville High School, Class of 1955, and completed four years of carpenter's school. He retired from the City of Collinsville as the Building Inspector/Director after 20 years of service. In his earlier years, Bob was a project manager/custom home builder, and was the developer of Sugar Bend Estates in Collinsville and St. John Neumann Catholic School in Maryville. He honorably served in the United States Air Force and was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville where he was involved in many special projects.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vollie George and Margaret (nee Siener) Bohnenstiehl; and three brothers: Vollie George Jr., Raymond, and Paul Bohnenstiehl.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Margaret "Peggy" M. (nee Cunningham) Bohnenstiehl, whom he married August 30, 1958; five children: Mary (Donald) Osborn of Glen Carbon, IL, Laura (Larry) Perez of Ballwin, MO, Robert (Alicia) Bohnenstiehl of O'Fallon, IL, David (Carla) Bohnenstiehl of Collinsville, IL, and Anne (Todd) Link of Glen Carbon, IL; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2024 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL and 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville.
Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday with Father Michael Haag celebrant and Father John Beveridge, Deacon Jim Hill and Deacon David Bohnenstiehl co-celebrants. Burial with military honors will be in SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Collinsville.
Memorials are suggested to SS Peter & Paul Catholic School and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
