Robert "Bob" D. Oberto, Sr., age 88 of Collinsville, IL, born August 30, 1932 in Maryville, IL, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
Bob retired from the City of Collinsville, Waste Water Department, serving as commissioner from 1968 – 1982. Prior to working for the City, he was the owner/operator of the former Casting Designs & Acquisition business. He also built several homes throughout the years. In 1965 he was awarded Who's Who in American Young Men. He was an Army Veteran, past President of the Collinsville Jaycees, a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, and a honorary KY Colonel. A faithful blood donor to the Red Cross, he had donated 3 gallons over the years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores I. (nee Vacca) Oberto, whom he married May 15, 1954; his parents, Dominick Robert and Frances (nee Giacoletto) Oberto; a sister, Celine Kaiser; and a brother, Norman Oberto.
He is survived by his two children: Deborah (Tom) Oberto Collins of Collinsville, IL and Robert D. (Mary Kaye Brooks) Oberto II of Glen Carbon, IL; four grandchildren: Dr. Nicole (Joel) Oberto, Robert D. Oberto III, Toni (Christian) Oberto, and Thomas (Melissa) Collins, Jr.; two great-grandchildren: Priya Isabella (Rob's daughter) and one on the way (Tom & Melissa); numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4 – 6 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL. Due to the current COVID restrictions, social distancing guidelines will be observed and face masks are required.
Private funeral service will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021 with Father John Beveridge officiating. Burial with military honors will be in SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Collinsville.
Memorials may be made in Bob's honor to the research of Dr. Brad Racette, The Movement Disorder Center, Washington University School of Medicine, and will be received at the funeral home.
