Robert Eugene “Bob” Edwards Sr., 84, of Maryville, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, love, and a lasting legacy in the community he proudly called home.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he continued building a life rooted in the Maryville community. Throughout the years, Bob owned and operated several local businesses, worked in Animal Control and for the Illinois Secretary of State’s DMV, and held numerous positions serving the Village of Maryville. His involvement in the community reflected his strong work ethic, outgoing personality, and deep connection to the town and its people.
Anyone who knew Bob knew he was truly one of a kind. Funny, upbeat, outspoken, and never one to shy away from a conversation, Bob never met a stranger. He had a way of making people laugh, speaking his mind, and turning even the simplest encounter into a memorable conversation. Whether you knew him for decades or had just met him, chances are you walked away with a smile or a story to tell.
While Bob wore many hats throughout his life, none was more important to him than that of husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle.
He shared 64 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sandra, building a life filled with family, memories, and love. His family was his greatest pride and joy. He cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, and his many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sandra Edwards; his children, Robby E. Edwards and Becky L. Malter (Ryan Malter); his grandchildren, Kayla R. Edwards, Kade T. Edwards, and Keagan L. Edwards, great grandson Cameron; his brother, Philip Edwards (Charlie); his sister, Joyce Smith; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Edwards.
Bob’s life was one filled with service, hard work, laughter, and, above all, family. He will be remembered for his unmistakable personality, his love for the people around him, and the countless memories he created along the way.
Though he will be deeply missed, his stories, his laughter, and the love he shared will live on through the many lives he touched.
A life well lived, a family well loved, and a man who will never be forgotten.
