Robert "Bob' Edwin Hulme, 84, of Edwardsville passed away on April 3, 2025. He was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on July 28, 1940.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia (nee Browder) Hulme; three sons, John Hulme, Peter (Kristian) Hulme and Douglas Hulme. Five grandchildren: Gabie (Andrew) Brown, Morgan and Colton Hulme, Daisy and Bobby Hulme; great-granddaughter, Hazel Brown.
He also leaves two sisters; Brenda (Terry) Moreman and Katherine (Jim) Wright in addition to many nieces, nephews and friends. His brother, Bethel Hulme, preceded him in death in addition to his parents, Frank and Marion Hulme.
Bob served as a US Army MP in South Korea and Central Illinois, where he got his degree at the University of Illinois. He became an Illinois State Police officer in the Chicago and Lake County area, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1991 after a distinguished career. He was influential in bringing D.A.R.E. to Illinois and later ran a halfway house in St. Louis for released federal prisoners. Bob was an active member of the Madison County Republican Party formerly serving as Chairman. He was a Civil War and gun enthusiast, spending many afternoons with dear friend, Ron Williams at the Edwardsville Gun Club. He treasured his role as father, often volunteering to coach soccer and baseball, refereeing YMCA soccer games, and attended countless sporting events of his grandchildren. Bob was a "regular" customer at the local Edwardsville donut shop and spent many mornings having coffee with son, John and his circle of friends. In addition to his family and friends, Bob enjoyed the companionship of five pet labradors over his lifetime, all named "Sam". In their retirement, Bob and wife Pat, traveled extensively "Out West", and shared a love for reading and biking the trails of Madison County.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
