Robert William
Logsdon
Feb 12, 1939 — Feb 19, 2024
Collinsville
Robert "Bob" William Logsdon, age 85 of Collinsville, IL, born February 12, 1939 in Maryville, IL, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024 at his residence surrounded by family.
Bob was a Collinsville High School graduate, Class of 1957 and attended Southern Illinois University. He worked as a machinist and retired from Anheuser-Busch after 19 years of service. He honorably served in the United States Army Reserves, was a member of the St. Louis Teamster Brewery Workers, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Experimental Aircraft Association member, and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association member.
Bob lived a life full of love, fun, and unforgettable memories. Bob was a friend to all who met him. He had a natural ability to strike up conversations with people from all walks of life and quickly established meaningful connections. Bob's warm personality touched the lives of everyone he encountered.
Bob truly lived life to the fullest. He raced stock cars for years and spent endless hours working not only on his own car but on anyone else's car that needed the work. Filling his heart full of memories and stories to share, such as the one time he attached a small engine to a wheelbarrow and strapped on a pair of old roller skates and drove it around the track during intermission. After stock car days, his next big adventure was establishing and literally building from an empty lot the Collinsville BMX Bicycle Track. Continuing his passion for adventures would include him piloting his own hot air balloon and acquiring his solo pilot license for his airplane flying days. He treasured all the times spent with family and friends during these adventures.
Bob loved spending the time with family, especially the grandkids. He was always finding fun things to do with them. It could be as simple as a trip to explore another local park he discovered - for him meant within a 30-mile radius of home. Or the outings with grandpa would be trips further down the road like going to see the Historical World War II Naval Landing Ship Tank (USS LST 325) that was going to be along the Chester, IL riverfront for only three days for tours. A trip to the Transportation Museum or all the way to Monticello, IL to the Railway Museum to check out a real steam and diesel locomotives. Even with their simplest kite flying days, with grandpa's modified extreme, string lengths would always been an exciting adventure for them all. He had no boundaries for the mission of exploration and fun.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles "Charlie" Logsdon and Marguerite (nee Roach) Logsdon; and a son, Robert "Bobby Joe" Logsdon.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his sister, Kay (Oscar) Pearce; daughter, Kay (Bill) Kerwin; stepchildren, Ruby (Brian) Morrissey and Jack (Jan) Harmon; three grandsons: Billy Kerwin, Landon Harmon and Timmy Morrissey; two granddaughters: Lanna Harmon and Kelly Morrissey; and a treasured uncle to many nieces and nephews.
