Robert L.
Peterson, Sr.
Mar 22, 1937 — May 14, 2023
Edwardsville
Robert L. "Bob" Peterson, Sr. age 86 of Edwardsville, IL, born March 22, 1937 in Fairmont City, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
Bob was a big sports fan. He enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Cardinals and was out on the golf course every chance he got. He also loved to travel whether it was to visit his kids and grandkids or go on a golf trip with his buddies; he was also a walking and talking Rand McNally Map and could give directions to anywhere. Bob never passed up a chance to do jigsaw or cross-word puzzles and was the best "Wordler" out there. If you couldn't find him on the golf course, he could usually be found enjoying breakfast at Uncle Linny's or the Eagle's Nest. He never missed an opportunity to meet friends and family for a meal.
Music was a gift Bob possessed. He often sang at church and enjoyed listening to gospel tunes by the Gaithers. His love for the Lord was unwavering; his family is at peace knowing he is at home in Heaven, reunited with Mary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Sophie (nee Nadziejko) Peterson; his wife, Mary E. (nee Wyrostek) Peterson, whom he married September 1, 1956; and two brothers: Leonard and Jashu Peterson.
He is survived by his three daughters: Denise "Aunt Dee" Peterson of St. Charles, MO, Janice Kay (Tim) Phelps of Delaware, OH, Stephanie (Dan) Peterson-Grauerholz of Des Moines, IA; a son, Rob (Kim) Peterson of New Douglas, IL; 16 grandchildren: Hannah (Jacob), Amelia (Jason), Olivia (Nate), Crisanda, Jacob, Shaun, Mya, Jaeonna, Stella, Lillyanna, Charleeanna, Eli, Megan, Paige, Abbie, and Chloee; three great grandsons: Bryant, Logan and Issac; and a brother, Donald Peterson of St. Louis, MO. He was also Uncle Bob to many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3pm to 7pm on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL.
Funeral service will be at 10am on Friday, May 19, 2023 with Rev. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon IL.
Golf attire encouraged.
