Robert Harry Soehnlin, 83, of Granite City, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 28, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.
Robert was born January 25, 1943, in East St. Louis, IL, to the late Harry M. and Mary (nee Langelle) Soehnlin. He graduated from Assumption High School with the Class of 1961.
Robert retired from National Steel, where he worked in sales. He enjoyed playing golf and, in his younger years, played softball, baseball, and basketball. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, and St. Louis Blues. Robert was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City. He especially loved spending time outdoors and working in his yard.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Richard P. Soehnlin; his sister, Susan Patricia Baquet; and his son-in-law, Kenneth Bayers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol A. (nee Kuenkler) Soehnlin, whom he married on June 29, 1963; two daughters, Cheryl (Raymie) Jonte and Teresa Soehnlin-Bayers; four grandchildren, Rebecca Jonte, Robert Jonte, Jeffrey Jonte, and Nichole Jonte; and two great-grandchildren, Rowan and Evelyn.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Father Stephen Thompson serving as celebrant. Private burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospital for Children, Granite City APA (Association for the Protection of Animals), or the family. Memorials may be received at the visitation or mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
