Roger Alexander "Alex" Matthews, 38, of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026. He was born December 25, 1987, in St. Louis, MO, to Roger and Cynthia (nee Carr) Matthews.

Alex worked as a graphic designer. He was a talented musician who could play nearly any instrument. He was a member of Generation Church in Caseyville, IL. Alex loved Jesus, his children, his canine companion, Paulie, and music.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jimmy Matthews; and maternal grandparents, Billy and Gloria Carr.

He is survived by his parents, Roger and Cynthia Matthews of Edwardsville, IL; his two children, Leo and Gloria Matthews, and their mother, Emily Peterson; two sisters, Allison (Kylee) Matthews of St. Louis, MO, and Ashlyn (Matthew) Lipham of Glen Carbon, IL; grandmother, Alma Matthews of Fairmont City, IL; a nephew, Aiden; a niece, Ryleigh; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Freedom Worship Center, 3633 State Route 162, Pontoon Beach, IL 62040. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m., officiated by Rev. Denise Menke and Rev. Gary Cook.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Generation Church and will be received at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
