Obituary

Roland Michael Henry, Jr (Mike) was born in St. Louis, MO to Roland and Berta Muldrow Henry, on March 6, 1961 at St. Mary's Hospital at 1:00AM.

His education began at Laclede Elementary School and continued at Gundlach Elementary. He graduated with honors from University City High School.

He began his work career at Dolgin's in Clayton, MO. He was employed by Street Side Records, then on to Blockbuster Music on Lindell Blvd in St. Louis, MO as store manager until the store closed.

Mike, then, became the front desk clerk at the St. Louis Airport Hilton Hotel.  Later, he transferred to the accounting department. Eventually, moving up the ladder to the Ball Park Hilton – Downtown and subsequently to the Double Tree Hotel in Collinsville, IL where he became controller. He was offered a position at the Union Station Hilton where he worked until the pandemic forced many layoffs in 2020.

Previously, Mike had worked part-time with Fairmount RaceTrack/Sauget OTB. During the pandemic he returned, and within a short period of time he became Manager of the "Parlor" until his death.

After moving to Collinsville, IL, he attended Wilkerson Chapel AMEC, where he became an active member participating as a Trustee and the Culinary committee. He was an avid decorator especially during the Christmas Holiday season at church and many private homes. Mike also enjoyed baking cupcakes for family and friends.

Mike and his travel companion Bill Holt in the late 90's traveled extensively in the South; Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana. Enjoying this, a full size RV was purchased in which they toured Wisconsin, Michigan, the UP, Niagara Falls and the Northeast Quadrant of the US. They purchased a lot in Thornburg, VA to house the RV stationary for over eight years along with their friends Mathieu and Smith. This group of travel partners also toured Europe (extensively), Iceland, Greece, Thailand, and throughout the Eastern and Western Caribbean and the West Indies on various cruise lines. After selling the RV and lot in Virginia, they started renting property on the Eastern Shore of Lake Michigan in Pentwater, MI.  Mike loved the adventures of traveling.

Mike was a member of the St. Louis Amen Circle, where he served as treasurer. He also participated in a bowling league in Collinsville, IL.

Mike was preceded in death on January 18, 2023 by his precious little dog, Savannah.

Mike leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Roland and Berta Henry; his traveling companion, Bill Holt; Godmother, Marie Rodgers; Goddaughter, Sherry Bobbitt; longtime special friend, Wanda Miller; Aunts and Uncles, William Muldrow, Jr., Alvin Muldrow, Catherine Muldrow, Grace Muldrow (Al Jackson), Patricia (Dwayne) Henderson, Clara Davis; cousins, church family, and a host of friends and co-workers.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at the Senior Citizen Center, 420 E. Main Street, Collinsville, IL 62234 with Presiding Elder Gary McCants, eulogist and Pastor Galda McCants, officiating.
