Obituary

Roman John Stolcis, Jr., age 75 of Maryville, IL, born October 23, 1945 in Alton, IL, passed away on August 11, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

Roman was the owner/operator of Gateway Audio/Visual in Collinsville.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, volunteer firefighter with the Glen Carbon Fire Protection District for many years, and  a member of the YMCA.  He enjoyed traveling to the beaches of Mexico with his family.  He enjoyed spending time outside farming, especially driving his tractor, and hunting deer and squirrel.  He had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger.  He loved birdwatching and Budweiser beer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roman J. Stolcis, Sr. and Margaret Mary (nee Ingram) Stolcis; father-in-law, Darwin Newgent, Sr.; two sons: Ryan John Stolcis and Michael Crowell; and brother-in-law, Rex Jackson.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy (nee Newgent) Stolcis, whom he married on November 12, 2000 in Greeneville, IL; a son, Roman J. (Wendy) Stolcis III of Peoria, AZ; a daughter, Michelle (Shawn) Trollard of Collinsville, IL; daughter-in-law, Dale Ann Crowell of Collinsville, IL; three grandchildren:  Shawn and Tanner Trollard and Michael Crowell; brother-in-law, Darwin (Sue) Newgent, Jr. of Godfrey, IL; and sister-in-law, Elaine Noltkamper of Belleville, IL.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.  Military rites will be provided by the United States Air Force.

Memorials may be made in Roman's honor to St. Jude Children's Hospital and will be received at the funeral home.
