Obituary

Sandra Kay Wilshire, age 70 of Jacksonville, FL, born February 28, 1952 in East St. Louis, IL, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, December 5, 2022.

Sandra was a retired office manager. Her favorite activities were anything that involved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She rarely missed watching them--it could be a soccer or hockey game, a talent show or a cheerleading competition--she was there cheering them on. Even after her diagnosis of ALS, nothing slowed her down; she had a will and found the way to travel across the country in her wheelchair van to support her grandkids. When Sandy wasn't traveling to one of her grandchildren's sporting events, she could be found getting her nails done or enjoying a massage with her daughter, granddaughters, and all that she called family.

Sandy was a spectacular human being with a heart of gold, a love for life, and helping those in need. She will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her, who without doubt were uplifted by her positive outlook on life and genuine selflessness. Sandy would love everyone to smile when you think of her and remember the fun times that she shared with each of you. No crying--she is no longer in pain and has left this life to go help God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Shirley (nee Miller) Wheat, and Vinny and Melba (nee Jordan ) Wilshire; and a brother, Johnny Wheat.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Wilshire, whom she married December 20, 1974; son, Jason (Heather) Wilshire; daughter, Dawn Swearingen; five grandchildren:  Jordan Bielicke, Logan Bielicke, Ryleigh Wilshire, Hannah Bielicke, and Jaxon Wilshire; a brother, Douglas (Maggie) Wheat; four sisters:  Sherry (Dave) Knott, Pam Hanlon, Janet (Don) Vigil and Margo (Tevis) Jones; a sister-in-law, Jill Wheat; numerous nieces and nephews.
