Sonja Lucille Witte, age 83 of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

She was born on December 5, 1939 in Collinsville to the late Walter and Mabel (nee Tobnick) Krietemeyer. She was a Collinsville High School graduate, Class of 1958, and married the love of her life, H. John Witte, on October 16, 1965. Sonja and her husband were the owners/operators of Dairy Freeze in Collinsville for over 50 years.

Sonja was very involved in the community. She was a member of the Collinsville Junior Service, Langley's Christ Care Group, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Three years ago, she moved to Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra and quickly adapted to her new living facility. They elected her as the President of the residents.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Hendricks.

Surviving are her son, Thomas (Jill) Witte of Collinsville; two grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Witte and Gregory Thomas Witte; a brother, Fred (Dorothy) Krietemeyer of Alpharetta, GA; sister-in-law, Judy Hendricks of Collinsville; nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023 and 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church with Rev. Kyle Wright officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Collinsville.
