Tommy F. O'Laughlin age 87 of St. Jacob, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Liberty Village in Maryville, IL.
Tommy was born on April 11, 1937, in Kennett, MO to the late Thomas J. and Mildred (nee Petrick) O'Laughlin. He married Judith "Judy" Rae O'Laughlin (nee Stevens) on January 13, 1962, and they were married until her passing on May 5, 2022. Tommy and Judy have two children, Lori and Thomas "Chipper".
Tommy was honorably discharged from the United States Marines on June 23, 1955. He joined the United States Navy on June 24, 1955, and served until he was honorably discharged on May 16, 1958. He would continue his service with the Navy Reserves until May 15, 1962. He was a natural artist and excelled in painting especially, as an oil painter. He spent his career until he retired as the Graphic Art Director for MAC flyer Magazine at Scott Air Force Base in Shiloh, IL. He taught art class through the Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville, IL Extension Program where he shared his talents with many local students and artists. Tommy's favorite time was spent with grandchildren and his family. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends and remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Pat O'Laughlin and brother-in-law, Ed Tessmer.
Surviving are his children, Lori (Dennis) Daiber and Thomas "Chipper" (Holly Bratton) O'Laughlin; four grandchildren: Dawn (Bobby) Ross, Garret (Beth) Daiber, Brett (Susie) Daiber, and Tori O'Laughlin; five great-grandchildren: Robby, Grace, Gunnar, Hudson and Salem; sister: Betty Tessmer; brother: Ronnie O'Laughlin (Linda), sister-in-law: Debbie O'Laughlin; step-brother: Mike (Mary Ann) Muskopf; step-sister: Kathy (Jeff) Gregory; A special thank you to family friend, Betty Jo Wiegers.
Memorial visitation will be on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.
Military Honors will begin at 7 p.m. followed by a Memorial service with Rev. Jim Robinson officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to Meadow Heights Baptist Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois. They will be received at the visitation or mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
