Obituary

Victor C. Betta, 88, of Maryville, IL, peacefully passed away at his residence on Saturday, August 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 6, 1937, in Litchfield, IL, Vic was the son of the late John Betta and Anna (nee Bertot) Betta Savoia. He graduated from Collinsville High School in 1954 and went on to earn a B.S. Degree from Southern Illinois University in 1962, followed by a master's degree in 1975. Vic proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Throughout his professional life, Vic held a number of leadership positions. He worked for International Harvester as a Zone Manager and later with 3M/DA-COM Corp as a Division Sales Manager in their St. Louis office. In 1993, he purchased the DA-COM A/V Division, relocating the office to Collinsville and founding Gateway A/V, Inc. He sold the business in 2000 and retired to the Lake of the Ozarks with his wife Donna, later returning to Maryville in 2006.

Vic was deeply committed to public service and community involvement. He served 15 years on the Collinsville Park Board, four years on the Economic Community Board, and was an active member of the Collinsville Sunrise Kiwanis. He was one of the five original founders of the Jaycee Raiders Little League Football Program in 1971, and played a significant role in organizing the Collinsville sports complex to honor mine workers who lost their lives in accidents. He also served on several boards, including the Tourism Board, Cahokia Mounds Board, and the Collinsville Gateway Convention Board—serving as chairman for eight years.

A passionate sportsman, Vic enjoyed fishing, hunting, and bocce ball. He was a Little League soccer and football coach, Illinois State sports referee, and participated in Collinsville softball and C.Y.C. basketball. His professional insight and leadership extended into small business mentorship through S.C.O.R.E., where he contributed to one of the top chapters in 2001.

He was honored with numerous awards for his service and leadership, including the Kiwanian of the Year Award in 2010, the Hixon Award for Service, and the Collinsville Raider Football Founder Award. He was also a recipient of the Illinois Military Scholarship (1960–1962) during his time at S.I.U.

Vic was a devoted member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Donna M. (nee Kriebaum) Betta, whom he married on October 30, 1983; his children, John J. Betta and Adrianne M. Betta; stepsons, Kevin M. Riggs and Bradley G. Riggs; nephews, Jim Betta and Giancarlo Betta; and great-nieces and nephews, Ireland and Brogun Betta, and Gian and Marina Betta.
