Violet C. Podnar, age 93 of Highland, IL, formerly of Collinsville, IL, born May 13, 1926 in Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the Faith Care Center in Highland, IL.

Violet was a retired accountant for St. Louis University.  She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Madison, IL.  She loved to grow roses, violets, needlepoint, sew, and in her younger days loved to travel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna nee Meineritch Podnar; a sister, Theresa Dorn; and a brother, Joseph Podnar.

She is survived by two nieces:  Valerie (Jeff) Boots of Summerfield, FL and Beverly (Johnny) Thornton of Collinsville, IL; four nephews:  Henry (Melinda Marquart) Dorn of Wildwood, MO, Mark Podnar of Baton Rouge, LA, Chris Podnar of Baton Rouge, LA and Joseph (Eva) Podnar of Seattle, WA; numerous great nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL with Father John Beveridge officiating.  Private burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association and will be received at the funeral home.
