William Franklin Burris, age 87, of Edwardsville, IL, born April 9, 1937, in Hartford City, IN, passed away at DePaul Hospital in Bridgeton, MO, on Friday, August 2, 2024, with his family by his side.
William was proud to have been a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 51 for 50+ years. He retired after 25 years for Asplundh Tree Experts in their street light division and 24 years with Mitchel Maintenance of Muncie, Indiana. William served his church in many ways, including as deacon and treasurer. He and his wife, Mary Margaret (nee Wheeler), have been members of East Side Community Church in Hamel, IL, for 13 years. William "Bill" enjoyed working on cars, where he did car repairs for many friends and family and always had a project.
His parents preceded him: John "Frank" Franklin and Helen Gladys (Blizzard) Burris; daughter, Kimbra Burris; two brothers: Robert Burris and Ronnie Burris; and three sisters: Helen, Florance, and Patricia "Pat" Crouse.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret (Wheeler) Burris of Edwardsville, IL, whom he married October 27, 1957; two sons: Rev. Dr. Kregg (Ann) Burris of Greenwood, IN, and Keith Burris of Greenwood, IN; three grandchildren: Captain Justin (Kasey) Burris of Shreveport, LA, Kalvin Burris of Columbus, OH, and Elizabeth (Travis) Carrico of Greenwood, IN; and four great-grandchildren: Ryan, Logan, Piper, and Quinn.
The visitation to pay respects to William will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 4-6 pm at Barry Wilson Funeral Home.
On Thursday, August 8, 2024, there will be another opportunity for visitation from 10-11 am at East Side Community Church in Hamel, IL.
We encourage all who knew and loved William to join us in these moments of remembrance.
Services are on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 11 am at East Side Community Church in Hamel, IL.
Burial will be on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 11 am at Thompson Cemetery in Gaston, IN.
Memorials are suggested to the East Side Community Church. They will be received at the visitation or mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
