William L. Crake, age 92, of Maryville, born January 21, 1931, in East St. Louis, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Liberty Village in Maryville.
William graduated from Palmyra High School in 1948. He earned his degrees at LaGrange College in 1950, and University of Missouri-Columbia in 1957. William also served in the Air Force as an air traffic controller during the Korean War. After the Air Force, he was a plant manager for NL Industries and Taracorp Inc. in Granite City, IL. In his retirement, William drove the City of Collinsville Senior Citizen Shuttle bus for 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Helen L. (nee Leiner) Crake; and his beloved wife, Barbara F. (nee Rost) Crake, whom he married on December 26, 1970.
Surviving are his daughter, Pamela (Ralph) Hylton of Maryville; and three grandchildren, Isaac, Andrew, and Emma Hylton.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, and 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.
A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. The burial with military honors will be at St. Johns Cemetery in Collinsville.
Memorials are suggested to Metro East Humane Society and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
