William "Bill" John Hook, Jr., 87, of Collinsville, IL, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, January 23, 2026.
Bill was born on August 6, 1938, in East St. Louis, IL, to the late William John Hook, Sr. and Mary (née Kucan) Hook. On August 12, 1961, he married the love of his life, Evalyn Friemann, and together they shared more than 64 years of marriage. She survives.
A graduate of Assumption High School in East St. Louis, Bill went on to become a familiar and beloved figure in the Collinsville community. He was the former owner and operator of Hooks' Bakery, which he proudly ran for over 30 years. In addition, he was a member of the IBEW Electrical Union and retired from Illinois Electric Works.
Bill was a lifelong member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville. He served his community faithfully as a past president and coach of the Collinsville Khoury League and was instrumental in starting the soccer league at SS Peter & Paul Catholic School.
Many will fondly remember Bill as the gentleman riding his trike motorcycle around town, often wearing his signature hat, whether topped with bright red hair or a Santa hat. Bill truly lived life to the fullest and brought joy wherever he went.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Evalyn "Evie" Hook of Collinsville, IL; his four sons: William "Billy" Hook III (former daughter-in-law, Toni Hook) of Collinsville, IL, James "Jay" (Beth) Hook of Troy, IL, Scott (Kim Thompson) Hook of Palm Harbor, FL, and Troy (Kathi) Hook of Glen Carbon, IL; six grandchildren: William Hook IV, Anthony Scott Hook, Alexandrea "Ali" (Matthew Cammarata) Hook, Troy (Chase) Hook II, Raylee (Alex) Johnson, Mea Hook; two great-grandchildren, William and Chase Hook; his siblings, Rosemary (Jack) Brown (of St. Peters, MO and Joe (Mary) Hook of Highland, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL. Memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. with Father Michael Haag officiating.
Memorials are suggested to SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church and will be received at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
