William Thomas "Tom" McDonald, age 79 of Caseyville, IL, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon, IL surrounded by family.
He was born July 30, 1944 in East St. Louis, IL to the late Lloyd and Bernice (nee Clyde) McDonald. He married his wife, whom he loved dearly, Carolyn Louise Grubb on September 30, 1978. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage.
Tom was a retired aircraft mechanic and honorably served in the United States Air Force. He had worked at the former Gene's Texico. He also dedicated many hours to the Lakers Car Club, organizing cruises and car shows. He had a great love for classic cars and owned many over the years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Thomas McDonald; a daughter, Kelly McDonald; a brother, Lloyd James; and a sister, Margaret Sue.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn McDonald; four children: Kathleen (Brent) Halwachs of Glen Carbon, IL; Julie (Lenny) Chambers of Collinsville, IL; Brian Mcdonald of Santa Barbara, CA; Kimberly Rehg of Freeburg, IL, six grandchildren: Erica (Nick) Koester, Braeden McDonald, Kyle and Anna Chambers, Sofia Spillari and Audrey Noonan; three great-grandchildren: Jackson, Lukas and Lydia; and a brother, Ron (Beverly) McDonald of Collinsville, IL.
Tom was a wonderful person who will be missed by many. He made an impact on everyone he met from his sense of humor, his strength, courage, faith and endless positivity.
Visitation will be 9:30 - 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville.
Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dale Skeesick and Rev. Kyle Wright officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062
